The Academy

The European Public Law Organization (EPLO), as an international organization dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the area of public law lato sensu, has established the "Academy for Transparency & Human Rights", an educational unit within its institutional framework in order to further disseminate information on transparency, anti-corruption, human rights and good governance. The Academy was founded on the belief that good governance is the main indicator of progress in a modern society and must be based upon the internationally recognized norms of transparency in public activity and on the protection of human rights.
The Academy is scientifically autonomous. It is governed by its Director and its Academic Board. The aforementioned positions are occupied by eminent international personalities that have reached high levels at their respective office and academic excellence in science. In addition, an Honorary Board of highly respected individuals with great experience in their field of action and unquestionable recognition in and by society acts as a permanent advisory committee on issues where consultation is needed, as decided by the Academic Board.

EPLO premises in Greece

Trainings in Greece are hosted at the EPLO's premises in Sounion and Athens consisted of lecture rooms, conference halls, meeting spaces and office facilities. When in Sounion, participants may choose to be accommodated at the "Sir David Williams" Guesthouse of the EPLO and will also take advantage of the EPLO "Michel Stassinopoulos" Library. They enjoy a unique experience of an international environment within the boundaries of the Greek state and they are provided with the opportunity to conduct studies and to enjoy cultural visits.

Education Initiatives

Established in 2013, the Academy for Transparency & Human Rights offers higher education and tailor-made training programs which cover a number of highly debated topics, such as: transparency in the public sector, protection of human rights, anticorruption tools, and more. The instruction is conducted mainly in English or Greek, and the courses take place worldwide. The Academy for Transparency is in continuous communication with various bodies, such as: Bar Associations, Universities, Supreme Courts, and Ministries etc, both within and outside of the EPLO network in order to develop and execute its programs. Active or future professionals of governance, practitioners of new public management of any kind and students of relevant educational backgrounds, are welcome to take the initiative to invite the ATHR to submit a proposal for the specific needs.

Structure

The programs are modern, holistic and multidisciplinary, and combine dynamic lectures delivered by academics and practitioners from throughout Europe. Educational site visits and enriching cultural excursions are provided. The academic program presents, discusses and explores issues of transparency in the public sphere and the protection of human rights on national, european and international levels. These themes are analyzed within the framework of international anticorruption tools that are necessary to all practitioners of new public management of any kind in all branches of government (executive, legislative and judiciary) to fully comprehend.

Educational Outcome

Judges, practitioners, officials in managerial positions, but also students, become better-acquainted with all legal, economic, social parameters and complexities that prevent good governance and negatively affect human rights and social progress. They also gain an understanding of the tools needed to mitigate these challenges.

Location and Duration

The programs are flexible in duration and are always adapted to the needs of each group. They are offered in key destinations around the globe. The EPLO traditionally shapes the academic program cultural visits, as well as all domestic transportation, accommodation and meals.

Certification

All participants are awarded with a Certificate of Attendance. Supplementary certification can be provided upon request.
